Abiodun Urges Churches to Reject Vote-Buying and Violence Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged church leaders to help curb vote-buying, electoral violence, intimidation and misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion's 15th General Synod in Ikenne, Abiodun asked religious leaders to promote peaceful political participation, responsible citizenship and issue-based campaigns. He also urged politicians to focus on ideas and programmes rather than ethnic or religious divisions. The governor called for stronger moral guidance and mentorship for young people, warning about their exposure to crime, violence, substance abuse, fraud and extremism. He said government, religious bodies, traditional rulers, businesses and civil society must work together to build a peaceful society. At a separate church event in Iperu, Abiodun restated his commitment to integrity, unity and public service. Anglican Primate Henry Ndukuba commended the Ogun State government’s efforts in infrastructure, investment and youth welfare.
