Tinubu Urges Bishops to Reject Election Violence and Hate Speech Ahead of 2027
President Bola Tinubu has urged Christian leaders not to use their pulpits to incite violence or deepen divisions ahead of the 2027 general election. Speaking through Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume at the 2026 International Synod of Charismatic Archbishops, Bishops and Apostles in Abuja, Tinubu said religious leaders should promote peaceful participation in the electoral process. He asked them to speak against vote buying, hate speech and the weaponisation of ethnicity and religion. The President also called for issue-based campaigns, stressing that political ambition must not be placed above national peace and unity.
