Ghanaian Man, 87, Sentenced to 20 Years for Defiling Nine-Year-Old Girl

An 87-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after a court in Accra found him guilty of defiling a nine-year-old girl. Police said the abuse reportedly occurred between July and August 2026 in Ofankor, Accra. The child disclosed the allegation after her mother noticed stains on her clothing and questioned her. Investigators said the man allegedly lured the child to his sleeping quarters and threatened her against reporting the abuse. He was convicted at the Gender-Based Violence Court at the DOVVSU Headquarters.
