FCCPC Seals CASCO Electronics’ Lagos Office Over Defective Solar Battery Dispute
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission sealed the Lagos branch of CASCO Electronics after the company failed to respond to a January complaint about a defective solar battery. The commission issued multiple summons and a compliance notice under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act before taking enforcement action. South-West Zonal Coordinator Mrs Olubunmi Otti said CASCO Electronics ignored all invitations to appear and explain the allegations. Under Section 150(4)(a) of the Act, the FCCPC can seal premises when a business fails to comply with directives. The outlet will remain closed until the breach is fully remedied and a compliance certificate is issued. Mrs Otti urged consumers to insist on receipts and verify products before purchase. She also advised businesses to cooperate promptly with regulatory agencies to maintain consumer trust and uphold industry standards. President of the Industrial Material Dealers Association, Mr Opara Uchenna-Martins, described the action as necessary for consumer protection. He called on traders to engage with regulators quickly to resolve issues and safeguard their reputations.
