Man Charged with Attempting to Shoot Trump at White House Press Dinner Pleads Not Guilty
A California man has pleaded not guilty to four federal charges after allegedly trying to assassinate former President Donald Trump during the annual White House Correspondents Association Dinner on April 25. Cole Allen, 31, appeared in a Washington federal court wearing an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs. Prosecutors say he carried a shotgun, handgun and knives across state lines with intent to commit a felony. He faces charges including attempted assassination of the president, using a firearm during a violent crime, transporting weapons and assaulting a federal officer. Secret Service agents tackled Allen at a security checkpoint and fired shots, none of which struck him. If convicted, Allen could face life in prison. This is the third alleged attempt on Trump’s life in under two years, following incidents at a campaign rally and near a golf outing earlier this year.
