Sowore Visits Ondo NAF Crash Site, Calls for Transparent Probe Into 25 Deaths
AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore visited the site of the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash near the Naval Base in Igbokoda, Ondo State. He called for a transparent investigation into the October 5 crash, which killed all 25 people aboard the ATR-42 transport and maritime patrol aircraft. Sowore questioned the aircraft’s maintenance record, procurement process and compliance with aviation safety procedures. He also criticised the emergency response and crash-site management, saying Nigerians deserve clear answers on what caused the disaster. The aircraft was travelling from Benin City to Lagos on a military support and transit mission when air traffic controllers lost communication and radar contact at 9:13 a.m. Recovery efforts have been complicated by the swampy mangrove terrain, deep mud and murky waters around the crash site. President Bola Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning, with flags at federal institutions to fly at half-mast.
