Elijah Muhammad, the Nation of Islam and the Politics of Racial Separation
This historical commentary examines Elijah Muhammad’s Nation of Islam, its separatist teachings and its documented encounters with George Lincoln Rockwell’s American Nazi Party in the early 1960s. It argues that white supremacists and Black separatists could share an opposition to racial integration while holding radically different beliefs about power, identity and history. The piece also considers how racial labels, religious symbolism and organisational hierarchy can shape political movements. Some wider claims about Freemasonry, Black identity movements and historical motivations are strongly interpretive and would need credible sources and historical context to be treated as established fact.
