Ooni of Ife Calls on Traditional Rulers and Youths to Reject Violence and Vote-Buying in Osun Poll
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has intensified efforts to ensure a peaceful 2026 Osun State governorship election. He urged traditional rulers, community leaders and young people to shun electoral violence and vote-selling. The appeal followed a visit by the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner and her team to the Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife. The meeting formed part of INEC’s stakeholder engagement ahead of the election. INEC’s commissioner stressed that elections are not warfare. She warned that vote-buying weakens democracy and urged voters to use their PVCs instead of trading votes for money. Oba Ogunwusi pledged to mobilise traditional institutions for voter education. He called on INEC to remain transparent and impartial and appealed for a credible, peaceful poll.
