NSCDC Arrests Two Over Alleged Illegal Gold Mining in Gwagwalada
The NSCDC Mining Marshals have arrested two suspects over alleged illegal gold mining in Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja. The Corps said the suspects were apprehended at an active extraction site after intelligence reports and a petition raised concerns that mining was taking place within an area covered by a valid exploration licence. Preliminary findings indicate that the operation may have extended beyond approved mineral title boundaries. Authorities are investigating possible violations of mining laws, environmental risks and the alleged unauthorised exploitation of mineral resources. The suspects are assisting investigators as efforts continue to identify other people linked to the operation. The NSCDC said illegal miners would be investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.
