NUPRC Warns Gas Flare Site Awardees: Use Sites or Risk Permit Revocation
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has warned companies awarded gas flare commercialisation sites that they could lose their permits if they fail to make meaningful progress. The Commission Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, gave the warning during a visit to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, in Abuja on September 8, 2026. Under the Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme, awardees will be assessed one year after their awards. The NUPRC says it may revoke permits where progress is inadequate, as part of efforts to convert flared gas into economic opportunities.
