Edo Governor Vows Justice After UNIBEN Student Is Shot Dead
Governor Monday Okpebholo has condemned the killing of a part-time UNIBEN student and vowed that those responsible will face justice. The victim, identified only as Alexander, finished his political science exam before gunmen intercepted his Mercedes SUV at the main campus gate on Benin-Lagos Road. He was killed instantly, while three others in the vehicle and a passerby sustained injuries and are being treated at UBTH. The Edo State Police confirmed one death and three injuries, attributing the attack to suspected cultists acting off campus. UNIBEN’s spokesperson clarified that no staff or student group is involved and urged the community to stay vigilant. In a statement by his chief press secretary, the governor called the act an affront to public safety and reiterated his administration’s determination to stamp out cultism across the state. He extended condolences to the victim’s family and assured the public the investigation will not be swept under the rug.
