BCDA Leadership Dispute Delays ₦10bn Allocation for Border Communities

A leadership dispute at the Border Communities Development Agency has delayed the release of a ₦10 billion allocation, disrupting the agency’s operations. President Bola Tinubu appointed former House of Representatives spokesman Abdulrazak Namdas as the agency’s director-general on June 26. However, Dr Dakorinama George, who disputes claims that he resigned, has continued to act as head of the agency. The Ministry of Finance says public funds will only be released after all statutory and administrative issues are clarified. The dispute has created uncertainty over who can approve the agency’s financial and administrative decisions. The BCDA serves more than 3,000 border communities across 105 local government areas in 21 states, providing projects such as roads, schools, healthcare facilities and water infrastructure.
