Abia APC Chieftain Calls for Transparency in Land Acquisitions

Abia APC Chieftain Calls for Transparency in Land Acquisitions

An APC chieftain in Abia State has called on the state government to prioritise consultation, transparency and community engagement when acquiring land for public projects. He said many communities have donated land for development over the years, expecting projects that improve residents’ welfare. He raised concerns about reports of fresh acquisitions and urged the government to clearly explain their purpose to affected communities. He also called for lawful compensation, respect for livelihoods and open dialogue, arguing that infrastructure development must not come at the expense of the rights and dignity of host communities. The Abia State Government had not publicly responded to the concerns at the time of the report.
