Netanyahu Invites Indian Flydubai Captain After Alleged Cockpit Attack
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has invited Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian pilot who was flying a Flydubai service to Tel Aviv, to visit Israel as his guest of honour. The invitation followed an alleged attack inside the cockpit. UAE authorities said preliminary findings indicate that the co-pilot used an emergency axe to assault the captain and tried to take control of the aircraft. The flight was diverted on Wednesday, and an investigation is ongoing. Netanyahu described Machchhar as a hero during a phone call released by his office.
