Police Arrest Five Over Anambra Community Leader’s Alleged Murder
The Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested five suspects over the killing of Emmanuel Nwanneniya, a former chairman and land agent in Ikem Nando, Anambra State. Investigators allege that a dispute over proceeds from community land sales escalated into threats, intimidation and murder. Police said Nwanneniya was allegedly lured to a meeting by people posing as land buyers. He was reportedly restrained, injected with a restricted ketamine sedative and forced to surrender access to his phone and banking applications. His wife alerted police after he failed to return from the appointment and was later found unconscious at the meeting location. The Force Intelligence Department’s Special Tactical Squad said intelligence gathering, digital forensics and tactical operations led to the arrests. Police also urged tighter controls on restricted veterinary drugs, while stressing that investigations continue and the suspects are presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
