Will AKK Gas Reach Abuja’s CNG Stations—or Only Power Plants and Industries?
We welcome NNPC’s announcement that the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline is expected to deliver gas to Abuja before the end of December 2026. But we want to know whether that gas will also reach the CNG stations serving motorists, commercial drivers and transport businesses. Gas supplied to power plants and factories does not automatically reach vehicle refuelling stations. Automotive CNG also needs suitable connections, compression facilities and dispensing infrastructure. Many motorists still spend hours searching for CNG, while some Northern stations rely on gas trucked from distant mother stations. The AKK project should help reduce that dependence and improve access for drivers—not simply deliver gas past them. We want NNPC to clarify whether CNG mother stations are included in the first Abuja delivery phase, which stations will receive gas, what volumes are planned, and when the required facilities and approvals will be ready. If automotive CNG is not part of the December phase, motorists need a confirmed timetable. This is a call for public accountability, not an accusation. Gas delivery to Abuja is welcome, but motorists also need to know when they can expect reliable CNG supply.
