Timipre Sylva Resigns From APC, Alleges Party Has Abandoned Its Founding Ideals

Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva has resigned from the All Progressives Congress with immediate effect, saying the party has departed from the ideals on which it was founded. In a letter dated August 31, 2026, and addressed to the APC chairman in Ward 4, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Sylva said he reached the decision after consulting his family, associates, colleagues and supporters. Sylva accused some party leaders of treating politics without regard for decency or morality. He also said the APC-led Federal Government had disappointed many Nigerians and questioned whether the administration could be revived. He further alleged that the EFCC had acted like an arm of the APC and said he was prepared for a possible intensified witch-hunt following his resignation.
