NEPZA Steps Up Checks on Illegal Imports in Free Trade Zones
The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority has intensified enforcement against alleged illegal importation and other regulatory breaches in Free Trade Zones. The authority says operators will face stricter inspections, closer checks of import documents and coordinated action with relevant enforcement agencies. It warned that businesses involved in mis-declaration of goods or unauthorised container movements could face penalties under Nigerian law. NEPZA said the action is intended to protect lawful businesses, prevent unregulated goods from entering communities and preserve confidence in the Free Trade Zone scheme. It urged operators and their associations to strengthen self-regulation while compliant businesses continue their operations.
