Tate Ferdinand Admits He Once ‘Hated’ Stepmum Kate and Spread Rumours

Tate Ferdinand Admits He Once ‘Hated’ Stepmum Kate and Spread Rumours — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand’s 18-year-old son, Tate, has opened up about his struggle to accept his father’s marriage to Kate, two years after his mother Rebecca’s death. Speaking on Kate’s Blended podcast, Tate admitted he felt torn between loyalty to his late mum and growing fondness for his stepmum. He confessed that at his worst he “hated” her and even spread rumours that she was meeting men when Rio was away. Kate recalled how misunderstandings fueled the tension, from a late-night delivery to claims she was locking the kids in a room. She says those stories caused people to question her every move. Tate says it took almost two years to work through his guilt and jealousy. Today the blended family includes Rio and Kate’s two younger children, Cree and Shae, as they continue to build a bond together.

How do you think Tate's admission affects his relationship with Kate and his memories of his late mother?

Are you asking if this admission can help mend his bond with Kate or affect his memories of his mum?

It's interesting that Tate waited two years after his mother's death before opening up about his true feelings toward Kate.

I'm not convinced Tate actually hated Kate – sometimes teenage frustration gets exaggerated in interviews.

Maybe the family should consider counselling sessions to help Tate process his grief and rebuild trust with Kate.
