Wike Says His Edo Election Battle Was With Obaseki, Not Ighodalo
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says he opposed Asue Ighodalo’s bid to succeed former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki because he viewed the election as a political contest with Obaseki. Wike described Ighodalo as a strong candidate and said Ighodalo met with him several times before the election. However, he maintained that supporting Ighodalo would have amounted to returning Obaseki’s influence to office. The remarks have renewed debate over the role of powerful political figures in determining electoral outcomes in Edo State.
