Ebonyi Man Arraigned Over Alleged Fake Lawyer Scheme and Forged Documents
A 33-year-old man, Ugwumba Oje, has been arraigned before an Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court for allegedly impersonating a lawyer, forging documents and obtaining money under false pretences. Prosecutors alleged that he wore a wig, gown and bib despite not being qualified to practise law. He is also accused of forging law degree certificates, an NBA seal and court documents. The prosecution further alleged that Oje collected ₦650,000 from a resident after promising to register a street name and construct an access road to the person’s compound. He pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge. The court adjourned the matter until November 5 for a ruling on his bail application.
