Reports from the April 2025 Nigerian Army recruitment exercise indicated lower interest from the South-East than from some other regions. The gap has renewed questions about the reasons some young people in the region may be reluctant to consider military service. Igbo people have a long history of service in the Nigerian military. The key question is what may have changed, and how the Army can build greater confidence among young people across every region.
