Binani Camp Clashes With Babachir Lawal Over NDC North-East Leadership
Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani’s campaign organisation has rejected claims by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, that North-East governorship candidates are acting against the NDC’s national interest. The dispute centres on the party’s leadership structure in the North-East. Binani’s camp said candidates from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe were not consulted before Lawal was assigned a leadership role in the region. According to the campaign, the candidates agreed to recognise Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the party’s leader in the North. It urged the NDC national leadership to intervene, saying party leadership should be guided by consultation, mutual respect and internal democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.
