Which Nigerian States Are Most Developed? 10 Metrics Beyond GDP
Is Lagos truly Nigeria’s most developed state? The answer depends on the indicators used. GDP alone does not capture development. A well-developed state should combine economic output with income, human development, healthcare, lower poverty levels and a stronger quality of life. Using the latest comparable data, this review ranks the leading states across 10 development measures. On total GDP in 2023, Lagos led with ₦33.1 trillion, followed by Delta at ₦14.6 trillion and the FCT at ₦9.4 trillion. For GDP per capita, the FCT ranked first at ₦3.1 million, ahead of Lagos at ₦2.1 million and Kwara at ₦2.0 million.
