APC Governors, Wike and Tinubu’s Test of Authority

I believe President Bola Tinubu faces a major political test as tensions grow between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and APC governors. The governors are reportedly unhappy that Wike, who remains a PDP member, supports Tinubu while maintaining influence across party lines. Some APC stakeholders want Wike to join the ruling party or face consequences. However, I doubt Tinubu will sack him, given the minister’s political value to the administration and the President’s 2027 re-election plans. In my view, the dispute goes beyond a quarrel between Wike and the governors. It raises questions about discipline, authority and whether the President can manage competing interests within his political coalition. A temporary truce may be possible, but the underlying tensions could persist unless clear boundaries are set.
