UK Court Jails 24-Year-Old Over £13.8m Cannabis Smuggling Plot
A 24-year-old woman has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for her role in an attempt to bring cannabis worth about £13.8 million into the United Kingdom. Border Force officers seized about 460 kilograms of vacuum-packed cannabis hidden beneath thin layers of clothing in 22 suitcases at Birmingham Airport. The group had travelled from Thailand through Paris, and investigators found several tracking devices linked to one account inside the luggage. Eleven people were convicted in connection with the operation. Prosecutors said the coordinated flights, heavy baggage and shared luggage tracking showed extensive planning.
