Nigerian Army Rescues Six Women and Children in Borno Operation
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI freed six abducted civilians, mostly women and children, during an early-morning raid on May 1. The rescue took place along the deserted Amuda corridor between Ngoshe and Gava in Gwoza LGA. The victims were intercepted as soldiers returned from targeting insurgent hideouts in the Mandara Mountains. They had been held since the March 3 attack on Ngoshe and managed to escape captivity in Gava. Soldiers came under sporadic fire from fleeing terrorists but quickly repelled them. Rescued civilians received medical attention before being reunited with their families the same day. Military authorities say this success highlights growing pressure on insurgent networks in Borno. They vow to sustain operations until all captives are released and remaining terrorist elements are eliminated.
