CSO Demands Justice for Lagos Community Leader in Unfounded Murder Case
A civil society organisation has petitioned the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly over the prosecution of Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi. They argue there is no prima facie evidence linking him to the alleged deaths of Prince Ademola Akinloye and Mr. Sheriff Salami. The group marched from Ikeja Shopping Mall to the Assembly to deliver its letter. It called for immediate release of the DPP’s legal advice, and for either bail on reasonable terms or unconditional release of Akanbi. The organisation also condemned public comments by senior police officials that they say imply guilt before trial. It warned that any influence on the DPP, the Attorney-General’s office or the judiciary could erode public confidence in the justice system. Copies of the petition were sent to top state and federal officials. The CSO has given authorities three days to respond or face sustained street protests.
