NDLEA, UAE Agency Sign Pact to Target Drug Trafficking Networks

Nigeria’s NDLEA and the United Arab Emirates’ National Drug Enforcement Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking between both countries. The agreement, signed in Abu Dhabi during the UN crime prevention congress, will support intelligence-sharing, joint operations, liaison exchanges and technical cooperation. It is aimed at disrupting criminal networks that exploit the busy Nigeria-UAE travel and trade corridor. The NDLEA said it intercepted about 354.7kg of illicit drugs bound for the UAE between 2021 and 2026, leading to the arrest and prosecution of 47 suspects. The agency added that the UAE may provide Nigerian travellers with a clearer list of prohibited items to reduce unintentional violations of its laws.
