Israel Strikes South Pars Petrochemical Hub, Halting Half of Iran’s Output
Israel’s Defense Forces announced a strike on the South Pars petrochemical facility in Asaluyeh, southern Iran. Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the plant produces roughly 50% of the country’s petrochemicals and is now offline. This follows last week’s attack on a second major facility. Katz said the two operations have cut about 85% of Iran’s petrochemical exports, inflicting tens of billions of dollars in damage. He added that this industry funds the Revolutionary Guards and warned of further strategic hits if attacks on Israel continue. Iran’s state media also reported on the strike, marking the second recent Israeli action against South Pars.
