UK to Impose GPS Movement Zones on Released Violent and Sex Offenders

UK to Impose GPS Movement Zones on Released Violent and Sex Offenders

The United Kingdom is introducing new movement restrictions for serious sexual and violent offenders after their release from prison. Under the policy, probation services in England and Wales will be able to create tightly defined zones that restrict where monitored offenders can travel. Those fitted with GPS tags could be returned to prison if they breach the boundaries. The government says victims will help shape the restrictions in individual cases. The measures are due to begin in October and form part of wider plans to strengthen supervision of high-risk offenders and speed up the deportation of foreign criminals.
