Bwala Admits Reforms Pushed More Nigerians Into Poverty, Says They Were Necessary
Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala has acknowledged that more Nigerians fell into poverty after the Tinubu administration introduced its economic reforms. Speaking on a television programme, Bwala said reforms of that scale inevitably bring hardship. He argued that Nigeria could not make progress without confronting long-standing economic problems. He said poverty was already widespread before the reforms and maintained that previous governments avoided similar measures because of public backlash. Bwala added that the administration recognises the hardship but believes it has also made progress since the reforms began.
