Jigsimur Trademark Dispute Heads to Federal High Court
A trademark dispute over the Jigsimur health drink brand is set to move to the Federal High Court after an Administrative Panel of the Patents and Designs Registry ruled in favour of Jigsimur SA (Pty) Limited. The case involves competing claims over the brand’s trademark, packaging, industrial design and distribution rights in Nigeria. Jigsimur Plus Limited says it applied to register the trademark in Nigeria in 2018 and built goodwill through importation and nationwide distribution. The opposing side argues that its Nigerian distribution relationship dates back to 2012 and that it secured trademark registrations in 2021. The court battle will determine whether the competing South African and Nigerian claims confer enforceable rights over the Jigsimur brand in Nigeria.
