Appeal Court Upholds Ex-NEXIM Bank MD Robert Orya’s Conviction Over ₦2.4bn Fraud
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the conviction of former NEXIM Bank Managing Director Robert Orya over a ₦2.4 billion fraud case. Orya was convicted by an FCT High Court on 49 counts of obtaining money by false pretences, forgery and advance-fee fraud. He received 10 years on each count, amounting to 490 years, although the sentences will run concurrently. A three-member appellate panel dismissed Orya’s appeal, ruling that it lacked merit and affirming the February 5, 2026 judgment. Orya led NEXIM Bank from 2009 to 2016.
