Plateau Troops Nab Ex-Police Inspector Carrying Weapons for Terrorists

Plateau Troops Nab Ex-Police Inspector Carrying Weapons for Terrorists — 1 of 5
1 / 5

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace arrested former inspector Danjuma Yusuf during an intelligence-led operation in Plateau State. He was intercepted at a checkpoint in Makera while travelling in a white Peugeot. A search of the vehicle recovered two locally made pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three cans of pepper spray, a jackknife, cutlasses, police tags, mobile phones, ATM cards, a NIN slip and ₦73,300 in cash. Yusuf, dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force, is suspected to be a key figure in an interstate arms trafficking network supplying terrorists, bandits and kidnappers. He remains in military custody as investigations continue. The army says this success highlights its resolve to curb illegal weapons proliferation. Members of the public are urged to share credible information to help dismantle criminal networks.

Does anyone else wonder what allowed him to travel with firearms undetected until the Makera checkpoint?

Yes, it's concerning that security gaps let him slip through Makera checkpoint with those weapons.

The report says 167 rounds and two pistols were found in the Peugeot. That seems excessive for personal protection.

It's easy to blame the former officer, but shouldn't we question how intelligence gathering missed this earlier?

Strengthening checkpoint procedures and regular vehicle inspections could deter insiders from moving arms between troubled zones unnoticed.
