Samsung Warranty Dispute Raises Questions About Consumer Protection in Nigeria
I am calling on the Federal Government, FCCPC, CAC and SON to examine Samsung’s warranty practices and consumer-protection responsibilities in Nigeria. I bought a Samsung Galaxy A73 5G for ₦321,000 in October 2022 with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty. Less than a month later, the phone developed a fault that repeatedly activated Flight Mode and disrupted network service. An authorised service centre confirmed a factory defect, but several repairs did not permanently resolve it. I was later offered a Galaxy A54 replacement, which I believe was lower in value than the phone I bought. Legal proceedings involving the retailer, distributor and Samsung-related entities raised questions about which company is legally responsible for defective devices, warranty enforcement and failed repairs. I have retained purchase, repair and communication records. I believe regulators should clarify the responsibilities of manufacturers, distributors, retailers and authorised service centres so Nigerian consumers can obtain fair remedies when products fail under warranty. I also welcome responsible accounts from others who have faced similar unresolved Samsung warranty issues.
