A Path Forward for the Middle East Crisis
The spread of nuclear weapons threatens us all. Enforcement should lie with all UN Security Council members that signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty, not just the USA. Israel, which isn’t a signatory, had no mandate to strike Iran. Preemptive attacks and targeted assassinations only fuel retaliation and instability. No nation escapes the risk of collateral damage. Killing a few scientists cannot derail a determined national program. Real security demands transparency and dialogue. All parties should recommit to the treaty framework and submit to impartial monitoring. Skilled negotiators must intervene before violence escalates further. Israel should consider joining the Non-Proliferation Treaty and accepting UN oversight. A UN-backed peacekeeping force could also support a stable, independent Palestine and help sustain lasting peace.
