Shettima Warns Against Dehumanisation of Nigerians Amid South Africa Xenophobia Concerns

Vice-President Kashim Shettima says Nigeria will no longer tolerate the dehumanisation of its citizens anywhere in the world. Speaking in Luanda, Angola, he condemned xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks targeting Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa. He said Nigeria’s role in the liberation of Southern Africa makes such treatment especially painful. Shettima urged South African authorities to protect lives and respect human dignity while enforcing immigration laws. He added that Nigeria wants constructive talks with South Africa but will firmly oppose unacceptable treatment of its citizens. Nigeria has also reported the alleged xenophobic attacks to the African Union.
