Customs Seizes 399 Rifles and Firearm Parts at Tin Can Island Port
The Nigeria Customs Service says it uncovered 399 fully assembled Jojef pump-action rifles and several firearm components in a seized container at the Tin Can Island Port Command. Customs said the shipment was initially found as crates of knocked-down parts concealed inside the container. Reassembly and examination reportedly recovered additional items including frames, trigger groups, barrels, charging handles, foregrips, springs and other rifle parts. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, warned that criminal networks may attempt to move prohibited weapons through Nigeria’s ports, airports and borders ahead of the next general elections. The firearms will be handed to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons after inventory and assessment, while investigations continue to identify those behind the shipment.
