Tinubu Confirms Shettima as Running Mate for 2027 Election
With hours left before the nomination deadline for the 2027 polls, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially confirmed Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate. The APC submitted their completed presidential nomination forms at a show of party unity in Abuja, attended by governors, legislators and top executives. APC national chairman Prof Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda hailed the ticket as the choice of over 12 million party members. He urged state leaders to promote the administration’s social and structural reforms ahead of the campaign. The Independent National Electoral Commission opened its portal on June 27 for parties to upload forms EC9 and EC9A-E. INEC has warned that any party missing the deadline will be excluded. So far, 14 parties have made submissions, but only seven have completed both presidential and vice-presidential filings. Other major contenders include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi pairing with Rabiu Kwankwaso, and several candidates from smaller parties, setting the stage for a competitive 2027 race.
