Coastal Highway Guards Arrest Suspected Fence Vandals on Lagos Corridor

Coastal Highway Guards Arrest Suspected Fence Vandals on Lagos Corridor

The Federal Ministry of Works has deployed an initial team of 40 Coastal Highway Guards to patrol the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and protect newly installed infrastructure. The unit, led by retired General Adekunle Shodunke, has been equipped with GPS-tracked motorcycles, walkie-talkies, helmets and rapid-response equipment. Its duties include preventing vandalism, illegal parking, street hawking, encampments, and unauthorised use of motorcycles and tricycles along the route. Officials said vandals have damaged or stolen perimeter fencing, manhole covers, road signs and steel reinforcement rods. The guards have reportedly made their first arrests after suspects were caught allegedly removing sections of the highway's clear-view fence. The suspects were handed over to law-enforcement agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.
