Nigeria, US Launch Fresh Joint Strikes on Islamic State in North-East
Nigeria and the United States have carried out new air and ground operations against Islamic State fighters in the country’s north-east. US Africa Command says intelligence confirmed the targets were IS militants. No Nigerian or US troops were harmed and assessments are ongoing. This follows a joint mission two days earlier that killed senior IS figure Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, who was under US sanctions. Insurgents and criminal gangs continue to threaten communities across northern Nigeria.
