Anambra Women Protest Mmesoma’s Killing, Urge Calm as Tensions Rise in Uga
Women in Uga, Aguata LGA of Anambra State, protested the killing of 23-year-old Mmesoma Umeorini, whose body was reportedly found in a bag after she was declared missing. Police said her former boyfriend, Chima Ofoeke, was arrested and allegedly confessed to killing her after their relationship ended. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka. Some protesters called for the expulsion of people from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, following the killing. However, reports of reprisal attacks have heightened fears of further violence, with residents and rights advocates urging calm and calling on security agencies to protect all communities.
