Kidnapped NYSC Prospective Corps Member Recounts Nine Days in Captivity as AI Photo Raises Victim’s Ransom to ₦4m

A Benue State University graduate travelling to the NYSC orientation camp in Akure said he was abducted with 11 other passengers near Ibillo, Edo State, on September 30, 2026. The group was taken through the forest towards Kogi State and held for nine days. He said the kidnappers beat victims during ransom negotiations, starved them and repeatedly moved them between locations. His family paid ₦2m for his release, while another victim reportedly paid ₦4m after kidnappers saw an AI-generated photo that made them believe he was a doctor. The victim said the travellers were released on October 8 after their families delivered ransom money in Okene. He also alleged that security agencies and the transport company were initially unaware of the abduction, and said he is still receiving treatment for trauma.
