Rivers Police Dismiss Three Officers Over Shooting of UNIPORT Graduate
The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed three officers over the shooting death of 22-year-old Anthony Obodo, a University of Port Harcourt graduate awaiting his NYSC call-up letter. Police said Obodo was driving along Ada George Road in Port Harcourt on August 27 when a patrol team flagged down his tinted Lexus. The officers allegedly pursued the vehicle after he failed to stop, and Corporal Alfred Louis reportedly fired a shot that struck Obodo. He was taken to Palmers Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The officers were arrested, detained and tried orderly-room before their dismissal. Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju said the dismissed officers will be charged to court. The incident sparked protests by youths from Obodo's Ndele community and other parts of Rivers State.
