Gani Adams Urges Southwest Governors to Launch Decisive War on Kidnapping
The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has appealed to South West governors and traditional rulers to confront the surge in kidnapping and restore safety across the region. In a statement titled “Yorubaland Is Troubled, Darkness Looms,” he warned that abductions and ransom demands are spreading fear and crippling the local economy. He recalled the killing of three Obas in four days, including the Olufon of Ifon in November 2020, and described the current wave of violence as a “hydra-headed monster” that must be fought swiftly. Kidnappers now target entire families, threatening wives and children if victims escape, and this cycle has driven farmers and traders off the highways and out of their fields. Adams challenged leaders to deploy every power at their disposal and pledged to lead a six-month operation to flush out terrorists, urging that Amotekun and conventional security agencies be reinforced immediately. He stressed that allowing this scourge to continue will undermine Yoruba culture, values and livelihoods, and warned that silence in the face of such evil is no longer an option.
