US Missionary Warns of 'War at Home' as Killings Surge in Plateau State
An American missionary and humanitarian worker, Alex Barbir, described Nigeria’s ongoing violence as a domestic war during an interview on New Central Television. He warned that coordinated attacks across Plateau State and other regions have claimed dozens of lives, affecting both Christians and Muslims. Barbir recounted personal experiences witnessing ambushes near military checkpoints in Miango, the burning of Ziki with 50 casualties, and a recent massacre in Jos just minutes from his hotel. He stressed that these incidents go beyond random criminality and show clear signs of planning and coordination. He highlighted attacks in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and villages hit on Christmas Eve, where hundreds of fighters struck in unison. Despite widespread deployment of security forces, Barbir argued that calling these events mere criminal acts understates the true scale of the violence. “War is at home in Nigeria,” he said. “People are being massacred across the country.”
