Three Nigerian Women Rescued From Alleged Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation Ring in Mali
The Plateau State Government has raised concern over human trafficking after three Nigerian women were rescued from Mali and handed over for rehabilitation. Officials said worsening economic hardship, unemployment and false promises of jobs abroad are making young people more vulnerable to traffickers. The women, aged 22 and 23, said they were promised legitimate jobs but were allegedly taken through Benin Republic to Mali and forced into prostitution. They alleged that their phones and documents were seized, while they faced threats, poor feeding and pressure to repay alleged travel debts. The Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission and the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Organisation said the victims will receive counselling, psychosocial care, rehabilitation and empowerment support. They called for stronger collaboration among authorities, civil society groups and international partners to rescue victims and dismantle trafficking networks.
