Netanyahu Thanks Uganda for Entebbe Memorial Honouring His Brother

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has thanked Uganda for erecting a memorial to his late brother, Lieutenant Colonel Yonatan “Yoni” Netanyahu, at the old Entebbe Airport terminal. Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Netanyahu recalled that his brother commanded the Israeli assault force during the 1976 hostage-rescue operation. Yoni Netanyahu was the only Israeli soldier killed in the raid. Uganda unveiled the bronze statue on August 1 as it marked 50 years since the Entebbe operation. The raid followed the hijacking of Air France Flight 139, whose passengers were held at Entebbe before Israeli commandos rescued more than 100 hostages.
