Police Allegedly Tear-Gas #EndSARS Memorial Gathering at Lekki Toll Gate

A memorial gathering marking six years since the #EndSARS protests was reportedly disrupted by tear gas at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos on Tuesday. Nigeria Democratic Congress governorship candidate Funso Doherty, his running mate Tolani Animashaun, and African Democratic Congress candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour were among those present. Animashaun said attendees were exposed to tear gas. A video from the scene showed police officers speaking to the crowd, but it did not capture any tear-gas deployment. The Lagos State Police Command had not issued an explanation as of the time of the report. The gathering commemorated the October 20, 2020 Lekki Toll Gate shooting during the nationwide protests against police brutality.
